A style and era I’ve yet to mention in this space – ‘60s pop – ranks as one of my all-time favorites and I would be remiss not to mention it now. I thoroughly adore most of the prevalent styles running through pop music at the time – girl groups, R&B, Brill Building, soul, baroque, and the list goes on. While I had to limit myself to only a few videos, they are each among the songs I cherish most. The first in particular arrives in the form of one of my favorite songs of all-time from a group and producer who share that same regard. Listen again.
The Ronettes ‘Baby I Love You’
Jackie DeShannon ‘Every Time You Walk in the Room’
The Beach Boys ‘I Can Hear Music’
Ike & Tina Turner ‘River Deep Mountain High’
The energy is so palpable in this last one that it just leaps through the screen. Its power is something so special that viewing it in a three inch box with poor sound quality and odd content (seriously, all that music coming from just Ike’s acoustic guitar?) cannot and will not contain. An inspiration.
