The events were distanced by eight years – not to mention a different venue, city, and country – yet the resounding impact of seeing Godspeed You Black Emperor live remained much the same. It had been a long absence, but upon revisiting their records in the days prior to the show I was repeatedly struck by how timeless their sounds, moods, and melodies were; like a classic novel that continues to gain relevance as time pushes on. Their set on April 24th only solidified this fact. Pairing the power and volume of a rock band with the longevity and nuance of an orchestra, the eight-piece live band was emotionally crushing in the best way possible.

Thursday, October 14th, 2010At the center of my recent Aquarelle tour with All Tiny Creatures was an inaugural festival in Raleigh, North Carolina: Hopscotch 2010. So many great bands, artists, and friends: it was impossible to take it all in. Below are photographs of the acts I did manage to see and nearly all of them blew me away. Thanks to Grayson Currin and all at Hopscotch.
